Mizu is a messaging application that uses the Tezos blockchain as a backend for storing messages and authenticating users. By using a smart contract instead of a centralized server as a backend for a messaging protocol based on X3DH key agreement and Double Ratchet, Mizu provides a path towards a more private way to communicate, while preserving state-of-the-art security properties such as forward secrecy and post-compromise security which distributed alternatives such as PGP-encrypted email or BitMessage lack. As identities on Mizu are just Tezos addresses communicating with a smart contract, which we believe makes Mizu a potentially interesting platform combining social networking and payment.
